EDITOR’S LETTER

February is the month of St Valentine, not to mention Cupid and Venus, or Eros and Aphrodite, or Yue-Lao or Kama or whichever icon of love you relate to. So it’s fitting that this month’s cover celebrity, Hong Kong’s own Karen Mok, talks not only about her upcoming starring role in Keanu Reeves’ directorial debut, but also about her recent marriage with old flame Johannes Natterer.

High-school sweethearts as teenagers, Mok and Natterer had been separated for years, building successful careers on different continents, before they serendipitously bumped into each other at a school reunion and rekindled the flame.

“It’s destiny, I suppose,” Mok tells Prestige Hong Kong. “But the thing I really find amazing about our relationship is that we had only really ever known each other when we were 17. So in his eyes, I am still this 17-year-old – this Karen Morris. It sounds corny but it is really such a nice thing.”

Nice, indeed. And a perfect scenario for Valentine’s Day, as well as a delightful detail for our Cover Story on Mok.

Also this month, we get ready for the annual Hong Kong Cancer Fund gala, themed Voyage this year, by sitting down with Cancer Fund Founder and Chief Executive Sally Lo to hear about the Rainbow Club – for children with brothers, sisters or parents experiencing cancer – and the organisation’s other fund-raising projects, all of which richly deserve our support. Then we have a bit of fun with the Cancer Fund’s pink bear mascot, as it gets up close and personal with a bevy of Hong Kong socialites and partygoers.

All that’s in addition to our usual line-up of glamorous soirées, must-have fashions, trendy dining, sleek cars and yachts, and all the other fine things that the luxe life has to offer.

Happy Valentine’s Day.
